Visual Music is an extension of Abstract animation that embraces non-narrative structures and abstract artistic elements. My final work embraces these aspects, becoming reactive to the music. TUTTI FRUTTI uses basic geometry, colour, and digital noise to become a reactive film.
The circles present within the film represent not only my historical influences, such as Len Lye and Oskar Fischinger, but also an expansion of their ideas into a digital space. I was very aware of the physical means they used to create such engaging works and wanted to reflect those techniques within modern mediums, in my case, Adobe After Effects.
The moving spheres act as figures, dancing to the track in a way that mirrors my own emotions while listening to Tutti Frutti (New Order). The deliberate use of digital noise enhances the ‘dance’ of elements and is used to blend motion, rhythm, composition, and fluidity. This creates a cohesive visual ballet that resonates with my personal experience of the track.
Overall, my goal with the film was to create something that could be felt and enjoyed. I want my viewer to feel the music in their chest, feel the excitement of the build-up and joy when the music finally gets to that peak. I hope to have reflected this well within my visuals, I believe I have. I’m very proud of the final outcome despite not having used After Effects much before. This project allowed me to experiment and learn new techniques that can be used in future work.
